Remote Field Application Scientist, with approximately 60% travel

About the Role:

The Field Application Scientist will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise to customers, primarily scientists and researchers in academia, government, and industry. The candidate will be expected to work closely with the sales team to provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support, assist in product demonstrations, and collaborate with customers on experimental design and troubleshooting. The FAS will deliver expert product support to customers and provide quick resolutions to complex technical inquiries including troubleshooting, coordinating customer feedback/interactions, and representing user experiences within the company to aid development of next generation products.

Primary Responsibilities:

Technical Expertise 

  • Deep understanding of the technical aspects of the products and services offered by the company. 
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies in the field, maintaining their knowledge and expertise through ongoing training and education.

Customer interactions  

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers 
  • Responding to customer inquiries promptly; provide technical support, and troubleshoot issues that may arise during experiments or product usage (e.g. sample viability, processing cryopreservation) 
  • Work closely with the sales team to understand customer needs and provide customized solutions
  • Provide technical expertise and study design support during the sales process
  • Provide on-site and/or remote scientific consultation to customers in both pre- and post-sale opportunities

Product Development & Improvement 

  • Provide feedback to the product development team on customer needs, product performance, and potential areas for improvement. 
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support the development and launch of new products and services.
  • Provide voice of customer, user-oriented and service-related inputs to ongoing and new product development

Technical documentation 

  • Develop technical documentation, including product manuals, protocols, and application notes. 
  • Ensure that technical documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and effectively communicates complex technical information to customers.
  • Provides assistance as needed to prepare launch materials: application notes, pre-sales presentations, training guides, on-site training, and troubleshooting workflows.

Training and education  

  • Develop and provide training and education to customers as needed (e.g. training them on sample processing and/or cryopreservation techniques)
  • Developing and deliver product demonstrations, workshops, and training sessions for customers
  • Participate in customer seminars and conferences.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Productivity and efficiency: measure the number of customer visits made per day, the number of projects completed within a given timeframe, and the time taken to resolve customer issues.
  • Sales revenue: measure the impact of the field application scientist's activities on sales revenue. Includes tracking the number of sales leads generated, the percentage of leads converted to sales, and the value of the sales generated.
  • Knowledge sharing: measure the extent to which the field application scientists are sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues and customers. Includes tracking the number of training sessions conducted, the number of customer seminars held, and the number of technical papers or articles published.
