Laboratory Technician now sought by our client, a waste management company in Los Angeles, CA. The Laboratory Technician will work in their hazardous waste management facility. The Lab Technician will assist in performing laboratory testing of samples in the lab to determine compatibility with their facility. The Lab Technician will also be responsible for reviewing and determining the acceptability or rejection of hazardous waste for handling, management, and/or processing at the facility based on the chemical composition of the materials, analytical data, Safety Data Sheets, and other relevant information in accordance with facility permit requirements, operational capabilities, and regulatory requirements. The Lab Technician will report to the Lab and Approvals Chemist.

  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Laboratory:

  • Perform facility lab operations in accordance with the facility Waste Analysis Plan (WAP) and all state, federal, and company regulations and requirements.
  • Perform required sampling and analysis of incoming, in-process, and outbound hazardous waste materials.
  • Ensure waste materials accepted or evaluated for acceptance at the facility are compatible for handling, treatment, and/or processing at PRRS.
  • Performance of required sampling analysis and supplemental analyses as required by facility permit, policies, and procedures including the use of, but not limited to, the following techniques: bomb calorimetry, gas chromatography, PH, and Karl Fischer. 
  • Ensure all recordkeeping, sampling data, analysis, and documentation is complete, accurate, and organized.
  • Maintain required recordkeeping and data in accordance with facility procedures and permit requirements.

Approvals:

  • Perform pre-acceptance evaluation of all waste material profiles submitted to the facility to determine acceptance or rejection based on the chemical composition of the materials, analytical data, Safety Data Sheets, and other relevant information in accordance with facility permit requirements, operational capabilities, and regulatory requirements. This determination is based on the conditions or limitations of existing permits and the waste’s compatibility with storage systems, treatment units, and other wastes being handled at the facility.
  • Management of all approved profiles in the company system as well as all recertification of expired profiles. 
  • Assist in the resolution of non-conforming waste discrepancies and waste rejection procedures.
