Messina Talent is seeking a Plant Engineer for our client in Walled Lake, MI. Our client is a designer, developer, manufacturer, and marketer of coated, laminated, and converted films, foils, and papers for various end-use markets.
The plant engineer plans, implements, and oversees plant-engineering activities including capital projects and facility upgrades. Specializes in design, mechanical, and process engineering while supporting the functions of other departments. Performs and/or oversees the design, installation, and implementation of new or upgraded plant and processing equipment as well as troubleshooting and continual improvements for existing equipment and processes. Secures bids for services and equipment and functions as the project manager for specific capital projects. Write equipment specifications for new and upgraded equipment. When applicable, train maintenance and other plant personnel in the use and care of the equipment.
Position Responsibilities:
Engineering
- Lead the design and implementation of high-priority engineering projects (process, facilities, mechanical, electrical, etc.)
Research & Development / Process Engineering
- Assist the transfer of R&D-designed products to production assets through consultation, equipment design, and asset conditions required to bring a product to production status while applying troubleshooting skills in order to improve existing processes.
Maintenance
- Assist the maintenance department in necessary equipment upgrades or repairs when required.
Planning
- Assist management and other departments in evaluation and recommendations on cost/benefits for modified and new equipment.
Training
- Assist in the design and implementation of training for all departments leading to improved processes, quality, and efficiencies.
Performs other duties as required by management.
Required Education and Experience:
- BS Degree in Engineering: Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience with plant engineering
- Experience chemical handling and thermal drying
- Proficient in using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, data analysis programs or related software
- Proficient with mechanical design, industrial electronics, and plant layout
- Familiar with NFPA processes including, though not limited to, gas, electric, fire safety, and Factory Mutual (FM) requirements Experience evaluating and troubleshooting manufacturing processes and machinery
- PLC Troubleshooting (PLC programming not required)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
Education and Experience Preferences:
- Web handling and roll to roll web coating.
- Textile Manufacturing.
- Float glass manufacturing.

Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. at a time.
- Must be able to traverse plant, access, and navigate all areas of the plant.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures in the plant.
- Ability to bend, twist, kneel, reach, push, pull, climb ladders, be on platforms, wear respirator and other PPE equipment Manual dexterity to evaluate, install, and modify equipment.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to travel (by vehicle, airplane, other) as required.
Travel Requirements:
- ~5% – Generally going to a customer or vendor facility to approve design or equipment
