Seeking to hire a Quality Control Chemist for a contract-to-hire role in University Park, IL.
The QC Chemist is responsible for performing tasks that support the operations unit during batch processing, including quality control inspections, checks, and tests during all stages of production and certifying products for shipment.
Job Overview and Responsibilities
- Use appropriate PPE based on job task
- Fully participate in plant health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) initiatives
- Attend required daily and monthly safety meetings
- Maintain housekeeping standards
- Generate and handle hazardous waste as part of lab operations utilizing satellite containers. Responsible for container labeling and marking, moving containers, and may collect samples to assist with the characterization of waste.
- Maintaining the retain system
- Manipulation of the computer systems to enter data, manage inventories, and generate Certificates of Analysis (ERP-IFS)
- Effectively communicating the process stage and disposition information on batches
- Miscellaneous sample analysis for the investigation of customer complaints, concerns, or requests
- Participation in Gauge R&R studies to validate methods and analysts
- Perform analyses of incoming raw materials using approved, methods and specifications in order to certify their quality.
- Carry out in-process and final product analyses
- Certify products for shipment.
- Support / adhere to all quality system requirements, including ISO 9001, European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients (EFfCI), Good Manufacturing Practices, and Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), consistent with Manufacturing Excellence and HSSE Management Systems as it relates to this position.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biology, or a high school diploma in addition to related laboratory experience.
- Able to perform job activities in compliance with HSE policies and procedures
- Knowledge in performing wet and instrumental analyses for controlling chemical processes
- Understanding of laboratory safety and calibration techniques
- Understanding of solution preparation
- Understanding of when and how to report incidents or accidents
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, email, and navigating file servers and web-based programs
- A certain degree of creativity and independence to accomplish goals
- Follow all site HSSE policies and procedures
- Completely understand and follow plant life-critical procedures
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating work schedule, 6am-6pm & 6pm-6am, switching from day shift to night shift every 10 weeks
